Megan E. Simms, LICSW

Megan Simms is a licensed independent clinical social worker who has been a psychotherapist since 2009. She is a graduate of Shepherd University’s Social Work Program and WVU’s MSW program. She began her career in community mental health working with all ages and all mental health diagnoses. In 2012 Megan transitioned into private practice in Martinsburg,WV as a psychotherapist. From 2014-2016 Megan received education from the Washington School of Psychiatry in Washington,DC and graduated with a certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Megan now owns a private practice in Martinsburg where she works with children, adults and families who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, PTSD and life transitions. She is trained in PCIT and enjoys working with children and their families to improve the parent/child relationship. Megan enjoys playing and laughing with her husband, son and dog. She enjoys the water and exercising.


I received a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Shepherd University in 2007 and received a

Masters Degree in Social Work in an advanced standing program at West Virginia University in

2009. I have had internships in a correctional facility and on an inpatient unit for youthful sex

offenders. I provided therapy at a community mental health clinic from 2009 to 2014 in

Hagerstown, MD. There, I worked with adolescents, adults and the elderly providing mental

health therapy individually, to families and couples and in groups. I gained experience working

with those who have severe mental illness, such as but not limited to, Bipolar Disorder,

depression, anxiety and panic, PTSD, ADHD, substance abuse, sex offenders and psychosis. I

am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in WV since 2012 and a Licensed

Clinical Social Worker- Clinical (LCSW-C) in Maryland since 2011. I have provided therapy in

a private practice setting since 2012 with adults, adolescents and couples who experience issues

such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, mood disorders, and other difficult life transitions. I

have completed a two year (2014-2016) training program at the Washington School of Psychiatry

in Washington, DC for a professional degree in child and adolescent psychotherapy using

psychodynamic techniques. I also completed their Supervision Training Program (2021).
